[ Assault Trader | Battle Cruiser | Dreadnaught | Scorpion ]
COMPUTER READOUT:
This craft has been identified as the Ferrengi's primary scouting vessel. It does carry sufficient firepower to pose a threat to some of the smaller Federation design warcraft though. The Ferrengi seem to excel in developing drive systems and the Assault Trader makes this readily apparent in its high speed and agility. One craft by itself can be handled, but be warned that they prefer to travel in convoys.
KOZAK'S ADVICE:
You will encounter this Ferrengi ship from Day One in the Game. It is best to surrender to the Ferrengi early on, until you have more fighters than they do. This Class of Ferrengi Ship uses only 2 turns per Sector, has 50 Cargo holds, and can carry up to 3,000 fighters. Its Combat odds are estimated to be about 1.2:1; thus a Merchant Cruiser cannot sustain an attack from one of these.
If you should capture one of these, you might be tempted to take it for a spin. Its main drawback is the lack of a long range scanner, although I found a scanner was available in some game versions. The buy-back price at Stardock is practically nil.
COMPUTER READOUT:
One of these warships was recently sighted off the Antarian Nebulae. This craft was unknown to the Federation until a hapless materials transport warping from the StarDock to a Federation Outpost was set upon by a pair of these. The crew managed to return the above info before contact was lost with them. From the debris left in the area, it would appear that these ships pack a powerful punch. No escape pod made it off the 'Sport to provide furthur details.
KOZAK'S ADVICE:
The Ferrengi BattleCruiser will appear in the game after about Day 30. The most dangerous point about this ship is invisibility to a density scan while piloted by the Ferrengi. It can only be detected by a Holographic Scan. This ship can carry up to 8,000 fighters and features 75 holds.
If captured, I do not recommend it for use by Traders. It will bring a moderate buy-back price at the StarDock Shipyards.
COMPUTER READOUT:
The U.S.S. Constellation was destroyed recently when it was engaged by this new class of Ferrengi vessel. The craft dropped out of a cloaked mode and attacked the Constellation before they even had a chance to raise their shields or return fire. All commissioned StarShip Captains have been notified that appearance of one of these weapons of Destruction is a Priority Red demand assistance. Civilians with appropriate defenses have also been asked to aid the defense against these powerful ships.
KOZAK'S ADVICE:
Some Ferrengi will appear in the game piloting a Dreadnaught about Day 60. The Dreadnaught can carry 15,000 fighters and features 100 cargo holds. It can also carry one Photon Torpedo.
Mainly for this last reason, the Dreadnaught is highly desirable to capture and pilot by Evil players. If you are playing Blue, you could make a great profit selling one of these to a Red Corp. (Don't sell it to your enemy, however.) The buy-back price at the StarDock Shipyard is good as well.
Anecdotal evidence has suggested that the Scorpion may be attacked if you are piloting another captured Ferrengi ship. The Dreadnaught is the best choice for such an attempt.
The Overlord in the Scorpion will disrupt Traders' Sector fighters, converting them into Ferrengi Fighters. He is resistant to Mines, Quasar Cannon fire and Interdictor Generators. He can do a cakewalk right into your Home Sector if you are not careful.
